Intensive Couples Therapy

There Is Hope For Your Relationship

Is your marriage or long-term relationship in crisis?

And are you looking for a way to move forward quickly without the stop-and-start disruptions between weekly therapy sessions?

If there has been a recent stressor or betrayal in your relationship, or if the two of you have reached your wit’s end in trying to navigate ongoing conflict, you may need a neutral moderating guide to help you heal and break the cycle. As you explore core issues in the safe, concentrated space of therapy, you can enhance your relationship and yourself on an individual level.

A couples therapy intensive can provide you with transformative tools for heightened understanding, communication, and intimacy so that both of you can feel satisfied in your marriage or relationship again. What might take three to six months of weekly therapy sessions can be accomplished in one to two days of intensives. All you need is to be motivated and willing to grow.

Let’s work on building a toolkit for a healthy, collaborative future—together.

Couples Intensives Allow You To Go Places Traditional Weekly Sessions Don’t

A lot of couples hear the word “intensive” and feel immediately overwhelmed. There are fears around the expense, time commitment, and the idea of digging into the most vulnerable parts of your relationship for hours on end with a near stranger. Maybe you’re worried I will take sides or that absolutely nothing can be done to help you heal.

But as a therapist who has worked with couples in crisis for decades, I know this process works! Not only does an intensive offer couples concentrated, uninterrupted time to explore their challenges—it’s usually cheaper than weekly counseling sessions in the long run.

With an intensive, you can experience the immediate effect of practicing skills in real-time as you learn to manage strong emotions and have tough conversations.

Intensive Therapy Is Available For All Couples

I offer intensive therapy options to couples from all backgrounds, including those who identify as LGBTQ+. The intensive process is designed to meet the unique needs of your marriage/relationship, and I provide a thorough assessment at the beginning of the process to determine which timeline best suits your goals:

  • 4 hours (available remotely or in-person)

  • 6 hours (available remotely or in-person)

  • 8 hours/1 day (in-person)

  • 16 hours/2 days (in-person weekend-long couples intensive retreat)

During our initial fee-based consultation session, we will have an opportunity to strategize, explore questions, and determine the timeline for the intensive process. At the end of this session, a nonrefundable deposit for the intensive will be taken.

From there, we will dive into your intensive. Drawing from a range of therapeutic approaches, I will offer you tools and strategies that will allow you to express yourselves more calmly and effectively. (To read more about the specific approaches I use for couples, read my Couples Therapy  page.) Following the intensive, a 90-minute follow-up session will be scheduled to monitor progress and reinforce the skills you learned.

Intensive Therapy Revolves Around Skills Building

Some examples of what you’ll learn through intensive couples therapy include:

  • Strategies for self-regulating, especially when it comes to managing aspects of infidelity, betrayal, and trauma

  • The ability to create autonomous goals that balance your relationship’s needs with what you want as an individual

  • Recognizing triggers and how pain, fear, and disappointment show up in your relationships

  • The ability to develop empathy for your significant other

  • Insight into how to support the team dynamic within the relationship (i.e., how to collaborate on parenting, finances, etc.)

This process builds emotional muscle in a way that will allow you to feel capable of managing all of the challenges that come your way. By enhancing your emotional and communication skills, you can achieve a level of self-improvement that will allow every relationship in your life to flourish.
